Genworth Financial today announced Kate Carey has been named to lead the company's Government Relations efforts and will be based in its Washington, D.C. office. In this newly created role for Genworth, which conducted its initial public offering on May 25 of this year, Carey will lead a team of people and manage the company's relations with federal and state governments, as well as industry trade associations.
Carey brings 20 years of legislative and insurance expertise to Genworth. For the past 14 years she's been vice president and head of Federal and International Government Relations for MetLife. In her new role, she will report to Genworth's senior vice president and general counsel, Leon Roday.
"Kate has an excellent reputation for working well with members from both sides of the aisle, industry partners, and grass roots organizations that bring voice to the political process," said Michael D. Fraizer, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Genworth Financial. "During her career, she's been a catalyst for change that's aided both policy owners and benefit providers by helping to pass several important legislative initiatives. We're delighted to add another top-quality insurance veteran to both our D.C. and Genworth leadership teams."
Carey holds a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Santa Clara, a J.D. from Catholic University of America, and an L.L.M. from Georgetown University. She will be based in Washington, D.C.
